Company History

Ralph Vick Jr. founded Dockworks in 1990. He is a Savannah native with generations of pile driving in his blood. His grandfather Oscar Napoleon Vick worked for the Corps of Engineers during the 1940’s and drove all of the channel markers along the Intercoastal Waterway from Norfolk, Virginia to Key West, FL. Ralph Vick, Sr. followed in his father’s footsteps and left a thriving optometry practice to run sport fishing boats. He first ran the Waterway out of the Savannah/Hilton Head area and then settled in Palm Beach. Ralph Vick, Jr. followed his dad’s new love and joined the sport fishing life. After settling down and having 2 boys, Kelly and Steven, Dockworks was established in 1990.

a family tradition

Keeping with the family tradition, Ralph Vick, Jr.’s son, Kelly developed a love for the water at a young age. He began to build docks with his dad in middle school and worked on the sport fishing boat with his grandfather after high school. After returning to Savannah, Kelly returned to building docks and bought the business from his dad in 2003 at the age of 24. Kelly’s craftsmanship and confidence on the water is exactly what you would expect from generations of pile drivers. Kelly’s 5 year old son Hunter now has saltwater in his veins and can’t wait to run Dockworks like his father and grandfather.
